Resetting "Check Engine" light

Does anybody know how to reset the check engine light? I have heard taht every 20k or so, the light goes on just to make you reset it, as a precautionary measure. The light does not go off when I drive, so i think it simply needs to be reset.

Thanks
Andrew

Edit: If you're talking about the amber Check Engine light, it is on because your EEC-V/OBD-II system has stored a trouble code. While you can clear it, it may come back. It would be a good idea to retrieve the code to see what problem the EEC has found. There are numerous reasons why this light can come on.
