Timing on my 94' 3.8 N/A t-bird

what should the timing be set to? I have a shop manual and it said with the spout connector disconnected it should be set to -10 degrees btdc. I'm just wondering because I set it to -10 degrees btdc and the car has no acceleration now and sounds like its pinging. Its not missing as much now though.

1o deg btdc is where it should be with the spout connector out. Make sure you didnt go 10 deg advanced on it. It took me about five times of tightining and loosening of the distributor hold down to get it just right. Also once you put the spout connector back in it should retard timing, should read around 20 btdc with the connector back in.

"BTDC" means before top dead center, and that is "advanced". ATDC is retard. (Think about it this way: 'before' = 'in advance' of the piston reaching TDC.)
