ran into a problem today......

well since it was really nice outside here in toronto about 10 degrees, I decided I would start getting the thunderbird ready to take out of storage, I pop the hood only to find a Huge mess, corrosion all over the battery cables, and surrounding metal. Right away I took it all apart, and cleaned it as good as I can, but my problem is, I did have some corrosion problems before, actually it all started last year, it wasn't bad so i brushed it off, now today its horrible, lookms liek that battery might have been leaking acid. Any suggestions would help.

Did you use a wire brush to clean the contacts? When a battery starts leaking there isn't much to be done except get a new one. =/ Also, if it isn't a maintenance-free battery did someone overfill the water? When did you last drive it? It is possible that the regulator is faulty which will overcharge the battery causing it to leak. Let us know. =)

I did use a wire brush to clean the contacts and put dialectric grease also. I will replace the battery cables, they are pretty much useless as they are. The battery is just a traditionall lead-acid one, its rather new actaully mabye less then 4 months old. Where is this regulator located?

Well if your new battery does the same thing, you know what the problem is.

wouldn't it of been better to say it would turn your depression into compression? haha sorry for the lame joke but, I know all about corosion. Remove the battery tray if anything got on it and clean it real nice and while its out add some nice rustoleum black coating (the one that looks like a powder coating) replace the cables and check your grounds! lol Good luck with it.
