4r70w vs 4r80w

Hi i was just wondering if there was any interchangeability between the two as far as clutches. could you put clutches out of the 80w in the 70 and would there be any strength gains. i know you could put the guts out of an old chevy turbo400 in a turbo 350 so i was just wondering if the same could be done here. thanks, Dave

Yeah, I was going to ask that earlier, but thought better of it for the moment.

Enough of that

We can't reply to the question because we don't have a clue as to what you are talking about when you say 4r80w. What is that? LOL

These are highly engineered precision vehicles, the first step in diagnosing the problem is to strike the suspected offending part sharply and repeatedly with a blunt object, then re-test.

The clutches in both of the transmissions you are asking about are identical. There would be no gain at all.

There were changes to the front pump and the intermediate piston assy. There is a change to a sun shell where it changed to stainless so that the turbine sensor can read the forward drum. Other than that, the stuff is pretty much the same as a 5.4 truck transmission.
