1-2 Acummulator Spring

Im pretty sure my transmission is missing it because when it shifts into second, second gear will engage pretty hard and jerk. has anybody ever dont this before? and if so how hard was it to do? im kinda afraid to touch the transmision, so im thinking about having a shop do it, anybody know how much that would run me?

The spring may be broken.
It isn't a tough job.

I have both my springs upper and lower in 1-2 accumulator and engages pretty hard still, even prior to my tune.

It is likely/probable that one of them is broken.

With my 97 I got the new style piston and both springs upper and lower and the cap. There is a new style that is steel bonded with rubber.

I PERSONALLY would get the piston, both springs, and the cap. If you take it to a shop they should have no problem doing it, drop the transmission pan, and it is right there. If you do it yourself then make sure you have some serious retaining ring pliers. It was the toughest part of what I did to my transmission to put it back together until I used a bottle jack to hold the cap in place (it is easier if you only go with one spring).

How bad would it be to leave it in there and just drive it? I’m pretty sure that’s my problem too but I like the hard shift lol.

Because I didn't replace mine, i ended up ripping a sprague err splice (one of the two) clutch and all hell broke loose and being out 1800$.

I'd spend 10-20 for a new piston and spring. =)

Should only be an hours labor, so 60 bucks plus parts and shop/environmental fees and 10 bucks in fluid, if that is the problem.

Hi, I don't know if this has anything to do with what going on in your case but I just had the same problem in my 2005 Ranger, when it shifted from 1 to 2 if was like getting whacked with a 2x4 in the back and 2 to 3 was a little less harsh. I took it in to dealer and it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor that needed to be replaced and is great now. Just my 2 cents.
