4.6 '94 Thunderbird tranny help, please.

Sorry to make a new thread, I couldn't find anything in the search window.

I have a question. My car goes into Reverse fine but when I put it in Drive or any gear to make it go forward I have to redline it for about 5 seconds or so, then sometimes it will go forward. does anyone have any ideas as to what this problem is?

Thanks in advance for any help.

make sure all of the wires are still intact nothings frayed or cut, double check the connectors, and mods move this thread to the drivetrain section

How many miles on the car/tranny? and when was the last time the tranny fluid was changed? Redlining it for any amout of time just to get it to move is not cool.

Has it ever been rebuilt or anything? From what I know, the trannies in the 94 were complete crap.

it's never been rebuilt.

and the fluid does have a little leak to it. I put on the E Brake and put it in nuetral after it's been idleing to check the fluid and it's fine.

I'm about to go jack it up now and check all the wires.

thanks again for the replies and sugestions.

sounds like a new transmission is in order...ou could rebuild this one, but its already a crappy 94 style. mine went out two weeeks ago, 50K on it...boo...

went to lkq online, bought a 00 gt transmission.
It is a better transmission, and will bolt up. i purchased it and i got free shipping because i had it sent to my friends shop. saved $150.

on the other hand...you could open yours up, check the 1-2 shift accumulator. that could be your problem. its a cheap part.
