something going on with my tranny

well calling on all youtranny masters, i need some help/advice. i just bought a 95 mark VIII and it would slip going into 4th so i did the mlps and 1-2 accumulator upgrade along with some fluid. it made it 98% better

but now something else came up. all i have been doing it starting it and driving it around my neighborhood(less than 30 mph) for couple minuts and thats it. well recently i have started the car, then i can hear a ticking sound that is very fast. sounds like metal to metal constant tapping/ticking comming from under the car. so i thought it was cats went bad but when i stuck my head under i put my hand on them and i could feel no vibration that went along with this sound. so then i moved in closer and put my hand on the bellhousing...still nothing then the oil pan, still nothing, finally i touched my tranny pan and there it was.

if i put an open palm up hand to the middle of the pan i can fell this vibration that goes right with the sound. but if i touch the corers/edges of the pan i feel nothing.

i have NO clue what is going on and it only does it while idling in park, soon as you go into any other gear it goes away. or does it VERY little if any. but go back into park and it comes back again. and i cant hear/ feel anything while driving it.

anyone may know what might be the problem? i want to get to this before i get it registered and i sell my other car. going to have it on a lift tomorrow to do the spring/coil conversion on the lincoln.

thanks for any help
Dean

Sounds like valve body buzz to me. Do a quick search for it in the drivetrain form and I'm sure some threads will pop up.

These are highly engineered precision vehicles, the first step in diagnosing the problem is to strike the suspected offending part sharply and repeatedly with a blunt object, then re-test.

well found some threads on it, sounds like thats is what is going on, the VB buzz. and seems the way to get rid of it is to get a new VB, or a new EPC solenoid.

do you know where the EPC solenoid is?

also do you know exactly what is going on to cause this? something about the valve resonating inside the VB, what makes this happen exactly. can always look for ways to fix things when i know how they work lol

thanks

Not sure where the EPC is. I *think* its one of the sensors that has the connection on the outside of the case. Has a black connector IIRC.

As far as the buzz, I would think you'd have to get a new valve body to get rid of the buzz. My 95 has the same issue and still shifts fine. Granted the intermediate clutches are about gone, but it will still bark the tires on the 1-2 shift

Darrin or Alan would be the guys to answer this for sure. I'm just throwing out what I've learned here and there.

thanks alot. im gonna start to search for a used tranny... knowing the 94-95's are crap might as well get rid of all future problems and get a newer year one.

can it be seen from taking off the tranny pan? or do you need to dive deeper? is it hard to replace? cost of a new one? what are the chances it solves me problem?

sorry for so many little questions
