1999 Towncar 4R70W

I have 1995 Mark VIII and my transmission is about to die.
I found a 1999 towncar 4R70W at good price.
If I were changing the extension housing and the output shaft, is it good transmission to use in my car?
I believe I should also change the MLPS and the TCC solenoid. Is there anything else I have to change?

Thanks in advance,
TK

You do realize...

To change the output shaft, everything else in the transmission has to come out, right?

It's the first part in, last out, afiak...

I bought a 02 crown vic/Gran marquis transmission, with low miles. The non-police one fits perfectly.

Repin connector, replace mlps and speed sensor, and good to go...you might have to change the solenoids for your app; I'm not sure, but I think so.

I'm pretty sure all you'd have to do is re-pin the bulkhead connector, and use your TCC, MLPS, and speed sensor. That was what I did for my car with my 99 grand marquis transmission, and it works great. I don't think you need to change the output shaft or extension housing.

The Town car does have the long output shaft. So, he would either have to replace it with the shorter one or get a shorter driveshaft. It isn't going to fit as it is.

I stand corrected. Sorry for passing along bad info.

So, how much DOES it cost to ship a transmission to Japan?

Does Mercon V count as hasmat? (or maybe wmd, depending on how bad of a mercon shower you get...)

Darrin can definitely hook you up with a killer transmission...

The 94 has all the problems and none of the fixes; it is more expensive to have one rebuilt than to buy one already done...but the distance is a problem.

Will a 4r70W fit in an overhead compartment?

Maybe a business trip to Japan would be cheaper than shipping...

Those can be written off on certain forms...

Everyone, thank you for your response.

I found the transmission here in Japan.
I wish I could find a transmission from mustang gt or one that fits, but all the mustang I see is V6.

I work for American car dealer and one of us is a transmission guy.
He can build a transmission. By the way, he attends ATRA powertrain expo every year, so one of you might have met him. ever seen a Japanese guy at there??

I checked for our inventory and found 1994 and 1995 transmissions from thunderbird.
They might be cheaper than buying 1999 touwncar trans and rebuilt it but I would rather to have newer one.

If I were buying a new transmission from the States, it would cost me about $2,000 shipped. I don't know how much the new transmission costs in the States, but if you knew it, you get an idea of shipping.

Is anyone willing to bring the transmission for me? I think not lol

I was a little unfunny in my post above, but I've seen people pay more than $2000 here for a transmission, so that's not insanely expensive.

The later model tranny will have the updated components you want to have, newer valvebody, mechanical diode, and from what I'm told, better fluid passages in the casing itself; so I personally would go with the 99 over the 95, unless it were free or something.

You might see how much the 'extra luggage fee' is the next time your buddy comes to the states...
