Since I live in an area where the outside temp can be as low as the high 30’s or as high as the mid 90’s during “car season”, I set up my air-to-oil trans cooler after the radiator in-tank cooler. The trans fluid gets warmed up on the cold mornings and cooled down on the hot afternoons. To make the second cooler more effective, I installed a pusher fan to blow through it and the inter cooler heat exchanger constantly when the engine is running. This arrangement seems to work well overall, with trans fluid temps typically in the 180-190 F range.
