dropping 2ed

just the other day i was driving and the tranny dropped 2ed gear.
and now it will do it everytime i get on the gas of the line shifting from 1-2
it will start to shift and then just drops. is it just time for a new tranny????
or can i fix it

Sounds like another blown one way roller clutch bites the dust.

I had the same problem. I drove my car for a while like that, but short answer is...its rebuild/replacement time.

Here is my initial thread on the issue, which I eventually rebuilt it myself. See if this sounds familiar:

And that is the winning answer I think. Common problem with these cars because of the one way clutch in them.

inspect the fluid, if it stinks with a sweet smell and has metal flakes you be looking at roller destruction On another note though with that year range trans the 1-2 accum and spring combo are pretty crap and can cause erratic 1-2 shift issues, but it should never fall out of gear.
