97 Mark VIII tranny in a 95 Cougar?

So will a lincoln mark VIII tranny fit in my 95 cougar 4.6? the mark VIII had the dohc 4.6 I know it will fit physically, but is it worth getting? Will it work?

I was curious about that myself i got a 95 bird..

i don't see why not as long as they are both 4.6s it should work, the 3.8 v6 4r70w has a different bellhousing

the shift linkage may be setup different so that MAY need to be adjusted, can't say for certain because i've never owned a 4r70w just did a few swaps here and there for friends

keep in mind the torque converter clutch solenoid for the 98+ 4r70w's have a different impedance so if you get one from a newer 98+ engine you'll need to swap the tcc else you'll fry your ecu

Year? 93-95 are a direct swap, 96-98 you need to open it up and swap the tcc solenoid.

well i need something to put in it's place because there is fluid all over my rear diff and transmission. so i am taking everything off the car. i did get to drive her for 10 minutes in first gear earlier today though

Besides the tcc solenoid you need to use a MLPS from your trans or get a new one for a 95 Tbird.
