Which re-pin is correct?

Hey all,

I have a 95 T-bird 4.6L. I am replacing the transmission with a 4r70w from a later

T-bird. I'm not sure what year the new tranny is from but it does have an 8 pin

main connector so I guess 1998 or later. Also the manual control lever on the new

tranny points up while the one from the '95 points down.

From the reading I have done on TCCoA and other sites is I need to re-pin the

harness connector on the car. That is no problem except the re-pin instructions on

TCCoA article says to re-pin one way and on a different site it says to re-pin a

different way. The other article even says the re-pin spelled out in TCCoA article is

NOT correct. So what is the real story? Which re-pin do I use?

And the manual control lever. Is it just a case of swapping the levers between

trannys? Do I just swap the levers and leave the guts?

Also I realise I have to swap the TCC solenoid from old tranny to the new one.

I know there were no 98 t-birds that is why I'm a little confused that the new tranny has an 8 pin connector. I am new to t-birds and I was told the used tranny I picked up was from a 1995 t-bird. Seems it was not. Everything else is exactly the same.

So the replacement tranny has only 7 physical pins in the receptacle on the tranny. It seems that if I repin as shown in TCCoA article then there will be no vehicle power available to the transmission. The newer trannys take one source of vehicle pwr and split it into three places within the trans while the older models use three vehicle pwr sources. Am I correct? So the harness connector needs to be repined so vehicle power will be at pin 4. I guess I will just pin the thing the way I 'think' it needs to be and so how it goes.

I may be wrong, however I believe that you need to swap the manual lever from the 95 into the new trans and you should reuse the wiring harness in the trans from the 95 as well. As you stated I believe that requires using the TCC solenoid from the 95 as well.
If you haven't already go read the tranny tech articles. I'm sure DirtyDog, Darrin or RobertP may chime in on this. They would know for sure.

Thanks supergordo! The swap is in work and I will know more about how everything goes tomorrow. My 16 yr old son is getting quite an education from all this. I bought the car for him.
