Older 4r70w tranny VS 99+ 4r70w

I have a question on the difference between 96-98 4r70w tranny and the 99+ 4r70w tranny.

I do understand that the valve bodies are different. My main question is how much better is the tranny housing?

Is it worth buying a 99+ tranny for the housing and VB to do a built tranny or will you get the same results out of a 96 - 98 tranny?

Case wise there isn't anything new with the 99+ over the 96 I don't think.

98 got the mechanical diode and better friction material, but that is all internals, I am not sure if the OWC is something that is part of a rebuild or not.

If your going with a built tranny start with a 99+, you'll end up hunting for parts that are already in them when starting with an older core.
