It's my understanding ford went BACK to the wire setup & deleted the printed Boards in some of their latest Trannys.
Because that board in the 4R70W is so much better, I can only see that happening in the instance of an issue with cost or with packaging where the solenoids are too far apart on other transmissions to allow it to be economical. From the time they introduced the board into the 4R70W, it was there until the end of their run.
Face it, how many of those old wired setups have we seen with cracked, brittle and swollen wires or that are leaking fluid through the case connector. And then there is the issue of the connector ends becoming brittle and the holding tabs breaking off.
On the other hand, in all of these specific transmissions that I have dealt with, I have never seen a single issue out of the board setup.
Yes, they are that much better in my opinion.
But, some may like wires and that's fine. I am not one of them however. I have had too many issues with them. On top of that, Ford has discontinued the wire setup and it's getting darn hard to find the stuff nowadays for those times you have to use it.
