4r70w downshift?

I have a 97 trans in my 94. Deep sump pan w/ drain, 97 filter, JMOD and aux cooler w/ Merc V fluid and a DD converter.

It shifts out nice and firm just as it should. That's not the issue. When I go to pass someone, or get on the interstate it doesn't downshift as 'snappy' as it used to. It will rev up for about a second and then catch and go. The fluid is full and only about a year old. I'm not sure whats going on. Any ideas?

I can do it like that, but why would it be doing what it's doing? It didn't do this before. I haven't done anything with the trans since I installed it. The car did run quite hot since then (bad CCRM didn't kick fan). Could it be cooked fluid? I've been thinking of flushing it but that's a good chunk of money. If I should that's fine, I just want to know that it'll help. The fluid is still red though. I just noticed this within the last month or so.

Thanks.

Does the fluid smell burnt?
