help

ok guys its doing it again. if i put the car in drive it cuts the engine off but if i neutral drop the car (rev it up put in gear) it will go into gear but die if i dont give it just a little bit of rpms. what do you guys think it could be?

1997 Thunderbird 4.6L

ok just talked to my wife dad and he said that it sound like the iac sensor to clean it up with some carb cleaner because the spring inside is getting stuck. so i will do that then tell you guys whats up.

so i cleaned the idle air control vaule but lost the gasket for it . it is still shuting off when it goes in gear but if fine once you GET it in gear but if you go from 1st to 2nd its cuts off again. i have a sct tuner what do i need to watch for if i hook it up for live feed back?

Use a propane torch and spray the propane around the intake with the car running. If it races, you found a vacuum leak.

thats what i thought to but this happen to me before and i reset the battery and it fixed the problem. but i will test vacuum leak at work. does it have to be propane?

Well, what exactly did you have in mind? Propane works well cause when the engine sucks it in, it burns faster and makes the engine rev slightly. It's clean too, so you don't get anything all over the engine.

i wondering if u could use any other gases to raise the rev but not blow anything up.
i don't propane but i do have oxygen would that work

ok guys drove it to work with the idle drive set to 900 so it wouldn't cut off at red lights. then on my lunch brake i put the idle rev back to were the tune has it originally and it was fine. then i was going through all the gears and when i put it in second i heard this popping sound coming from either the bell housing or the oil pan or the cats. so i put it back in park and it stoped drove down the road and never heard it again. any ideas?
