Transmission spring question

This is on my beeter bird I do not want to jmod this one, I jmodded mine so long ago I forget some of this stuff. I'm just doing a flush on the beeter car and pulled this apart and noticed the spring was broke.
Can I just leave it out? If so what all do I have to put back in? Thanks!

That's the ... 1-2 lower spring? Leaving out the bottom 1-2 piston spring is an optional part of the J-mod to firm up the shifts. If you aren't drilling the separator plate, you shouldn't experience a terribly firm shift, one suitable enough for DD IMO.

That style accumulator piston is problematic. The O ring wears, the piston starts wearing the bore, it gets stuck in crooked. I had a pretty scored up bore, a 1-2 shift that was obnoxious and inconsistent, in my 97 Cougar. The newer style piston sealed just fine.

Personally I would replace it with the steel/bonded rubber one and the cheap upper spring that everyone includes with their JMod kit. I have 3 or 4 of them around as I leave out all springs in my cars.

Piston, snap ring and cover are all required. Only the spring is optional.

IMO throwing away that ancient 1-2 Accumulator Piston is required TOO for the "new style" (that aint even new anymore) ... why risk trashing even a beater Tranny over a few bucks~?

GET OFF MY LAWN~! ... & Let's not forget guys... There's still a dead Imaginary Ex-Girlfriend out there...
