New Old Transmissions

So I managed to track down a new transmission from a 97 bird. I know the TCC solenoid has to be changed over because my bird is a 95. with this new transmission it has only 60k on it but it's been sitting. I got it from Pick-n-Pull yard but they've had it on shelf for a couple of years. She hasn't had any fluid in her. Before I swap this new transmission in is there anything I can do to try and possibly rejuvenate seals or clean it up a little bit. Should I swap the wiring over from my 95?

Ryan

The seals will be hard as a rock; if you can refurb the rubber seals, it will probably work ok.

A better option is a later transmission; but even the 02 trannys I've been getting are now old...and we can only go that late with some changes.

If you can find a shop that knows to use the one-piece teflon seals on the shafts, get them to put a rebuild kit in it.

The shops that deal with the police cars are the ones that know our cars.

You can use the trans out of a 97. You'll need the 1 Ohm TCC as suggested by the poster above. No need to change any wiring that I'm aware of. I don't think they went to the rigid wire harness until later on.

The 94-95's are different because of the one solenoid; A later tranny has a LOT of upgrade parts, the 'mech diode' being the big difference.

There's a vendor here, Darrin, that can help you out if you can't build one yourself.

I personally wouldn't waste my time putting a 97 tranny in without new rubber/seals.

Actually, I'd go buy an 02 gran marquis tranny, and take it to someone and have them build it by the J-mod instructions.

If you do go to Darrin, listen to whatever he tells you. He knows a lot more than I do.

Teflon one piece shaft seals are the biggest mod.
