good but weird find for my cougar

I have a 95 merc with a pi swap. came across two transmissions out of a 96 and 97 cougars. would those work with my 95 with out issue. because I have read that there are differences or might have miss read other articls. yes I am a bad speller sorry.
I am going to have one of them rebuilt and use the other temporarily till I get the other one rebuilt I know the miles off of them. because they came out of two cars that the owners didn't want them. but there were other people wanted every thing else. the shop said that the transmissions were taken care of. one thing was good I was there when they drained changed the filters and put in new fluid. no discoloration of fluid or any thing got one now and about to get the other. what does every one think of using one for the time being while the other one is going to be gone through to the way I would like it.

I have some suggestions.

#1: Sentence structure.

No one wants to try to extract any meaning out of that abortion you wrote that kinda looks like a paragraph, but isn't.

#2: There are thousands of threads on the differences between a 94-95 4r70w and the later ones.
You need to read those, because of you don't get it right, it can kill your eec.

#3 A 2002 tranny, rebuilt and modified to fit your car, is as good as it gets, stock.

Don't think a 20+ yo JY tranny is going to work; everything needs to be rebuilt at this point.

Don't make excuses. Man up. LEARN to spell and use proper sentence structure and punctuation, or take the easy way out and use a spell checker. Either way it will serve you well here and, more importantly, in your work and life.

To answer your question, yes any 4R70W will work (provided it's in good shape).

I had an issue with the a Mark 8 trans swap in my TBird. It had to do with the the wiring harness mismatch. Make sure that the trans is compatible with a later year trans. You may find out that a rebuild will be less costly than the labor of swapping trabn in and out. Good luck.

The 4R70W from the 96 and 97 will bolt in fine. Use the electronics from your transmission and it'll be fine. If the transmissions have not been rebuilt, they'd be suitable for rebuilding first before putting in unless you're dead in the water.

A later year model out of a town car/gran marquis/crown vic has improved internals. There may be speedo attachment issues though depending on year.
