Difference Between 01 & 03 4R70W trannies?

I'm looking for a trans for my 96 T-Bird and seen a few 01 Trannies but heard the 03's were better. This may have been discussed before but can someone clear up the difference.

Well the 01 has all the updated accumulators, a better VB, and a MD OWC. The 03, I've heard, has all that plus the stronger 5.4 planetaries. A search will give you more information, I'm sure.

Thanks,, looks liek the 01 will work for me.

Does the 03 Upgrades to the 5.4L equipment only apply to the V8 4.6/5.4 units or the 3.8l V6 trannies?

The upgrades in 03+ are on ALL 4r70w's. The older, weaker parts have gone out of production. That being said, an 01+ tranny will be fine.

Yes, a 99-02 4R70W is more than strong enough for any street setup, and most hardcore strip setups.
