04 4R70W question

does this tranny have a speedo gear or a electronic plug, in other words will the speedo work in my 96 bird if i get this year tranny out of a gt.

96 pearl white 4.6 tbird: rebuilt npi block with pi heads, pi intake, crower stage 2 cams, shm high lift springs, L-MAF, 3.73's, marauder converter, jmod, kooks headers, xpipe, no cats, 2.5 in exhaust, no mufflers, a dyno tune, lots of interior work, 1 in drop with lots of new bushings, 18 in rims. 279 hp 319 tq. curently running 13.9 at 101 mph with a 2.1 60 time in 100 degree weather while having some nasty spark knock. Soon to have higher stall, aftermarket intake manifold, weight reduction, and hopefully a nice shot of the giggle gas.

The 04 4r70w uses a OSS sensor instead of the VSS sensor. It has no teeth on the output shaft to use the VSS. If their is a way to read the signal from the OSS then you will be able to use that tranny. Right now I don't think anyone has done it, because of that reason.

It's not too big of a deal if the tranny is already out of the car. Might just have to do a forced tailshaft lube mod when my tranny comes out to be trucked off to her new owner.

Depends on who you are and if you have the right tools.

You could use the OSS if tied to a Auto-Meter aftermarket Speedo.

so what all would have to be done to make it work, how many choices, and how much cost.

If you want to go the route that Alan is talking about, then you have to tear the transmission apart to just bear casing and then change out the output shaft.
