TRANSplant successful! (V6 4R70W in place of AODE)

I just wanted to share some good news, because without this site I would have never been able to get the job done.

I just finished the installation of a 2003 V6 4R70W in place of the failed AODE in my Mustang. The V6 trans is in and running well. The previous trans was an older AODE build-up by Level10.

The thing shifts great! Part throttle shifts are fairly soft, full throttle shifts are nice and firm. It shifts MUCH better than the old trans. The old trans was very clunky on the 3-4 upshift and also on all part throttle downshifts. This trans is MUCH smoother. All is working, including the lock-up converter which without proper tuning will not work because of the different trans ratios.

I followed the recommendations on this site: Found a low mileage V6 4R70W trans from a local junkyard for $250; performed the j-mod for > 450HP; modified my old TCC solenoid to work with the new harness; swapped the driveshaft yoke for the larger style; repinned the harness; and re-tuned for the new trans using my EEC-Tuner.

So far so good! Probably the best $250 I have ever spent!

watch out for burning up the trans with too much power. the v6 4r70w has one less clutch plate than their v8 brothers.

My daily job is to fry rice for my customers....

I'd rather have a 4R70W anyday over an AOD. And yes, those are some very very nice Mustangs in that link.
