best 4R70W to manual method?

I have searched through the posts looking at all the info, and having not attempted to convert to a manual, they got kind of confusing after a while. With all the different methods people have used, is there a "best" way to do the conversion? There has to be a way that is just downright easiest and cheapest. Again, since I have not tried it yet, I don't even know where to start to get the job done. And what about that Macleod universal bellhousing adapter? I didn't see any posts on this but couldn't one just use that (on a 4.6), and just get a trans and everything else off a SC? I don't want to go crazy with custom fabrication and all that. It seems kind of excessive and maybe unreliable to me. Again, all this relates to a 4.6 car.
