What the real deal with the deap sump 4R70W pans?

I've been searching threw threads for days and have been to my ford deal twice.

Whats the difference between the 2? My 98 Explorer trans pan has a small sump/divet in the middle of the pan and my 1996 thunderbird 3.8L does not have this divet and is a completely flat pan?

From what I read the 96+ already have the deep sump pans,, however my 1996 3.8L looks to have a standard pan?

Also someone said they make a pan from ford that comes with a drain plug already installed? I got the part number from a thread on here and my cost for it was $52 at ford. However the picture we pulled up showed no drain plug in the diagram?

Any info, pics or part numbers would be greatly appreciated.

The drain plug pan was from vans. 96 transmissions may or may not be updated it depends on production date.
