Upgrading a 4R70W - looking for a good shop

Hey guys, newbie here on TCCOA.

I am looking to upgrade my '98 4R70W with some extra clutches, planetary carrier, forward sun gear, etc to handle over 400 hp at the crank.

Do any of you guys know of a shop that has done this and kind of specializes in this type of build? Fortunately the '98 has most of the goodies required for a high hp application so I am looking for a guy that will upgrade only what needs upgrading, if you know what I mean.

Name, phone number and location would be greatly appreciated.

Darrin, a member here, builds transmission to any spec you would want. From what I hear, he does an excellent job too.

i dont think you need to upgrade any of the carriers, clutches and so on to have a strong 4R70W, a good j-mod will make it good for 450+hp applications

I'd definitely suggest BC Automotive (aka Darrin) or Dirtyd0g. Since it says you're in WI, Darrin would be closer to you.

thats totally, completely, categorically wrong. The "j-mod" is shift kit mod.....read the damn tech articles. YOU NEED to upgrade the clutches and internal hard parts, thats why the thesis was written. Do you even know who jerry is?

Thanks for the replies so far.

I'll look Darrin up and see what gives.

If there is anybody else, I'd be happy to talk to them.

I'm pretty much looking for a straight shooter that will sell me only what I need to get to where I'm going.

Thanks again guys.

all of the parts listed in the tech articles that you NEED can be found at the Forde dealership. If you arent gonna go with Darrin, then bring the build sheet to a good local guy who cannn do it for you.

Darrin and Dirtyd0g have a dedicated forum on lincolnplanet. This was just recently setup. Might be an easy way to get ahold of them.

Go to BC automotive, Darrin will take care of you.....

You definately want to go to Darrin, he knows his $#^% and has all the special tools needed for a J-spec trans build. Hewont sell you anything you dont need for your application. He will talk with you, see what your plans are and suggest an appropriate build, there is no need for an all out J-spec build if you will only run under 400 hp. Not to mention it comes at a great price, I got a mild spec build from Darrin for less than it would have cost to have the stock one rebuilt, and that includes shipping almost cross country!

All Glory to God!

What's up Bryan!

Listen to these two guys, Darrin and DirtyDog, they'll set you straight.

Just be sure to tell 'em what's in the trunk so they can build accordingly.

Darrin and Alan are the only guys I would trust unless you know a local builder very well. They have also been very good to people on this board with the free information. There is too much bad sh*t out there to take a chance.
