4r70w on its way out??

Well my tranny has started to act up lately, its started to shift soflty when it used to chird 2nd and had very quick and snappy shift. And it also redlines or feels like its slipping badly during the shift from 1st to 2nd if im gettign on it.Overall it feels really sloppy and im pissed. What do you guys recomend, rebuild , new tranny, or 5 speed swap?, which would u think would be best choice for a do it at home mechanic as myself.I would really like to shift my own gears but is it worth the hassle to go searching for parts all over the place and hope they work out?

well, I doubt you'd be able to rebuild the 4R real well. There are a lot of tools necessary and experience required. Talk to Darrin and Dirty about that one. You have let us know what price range you are working with. A manual swap is very doable if you have the time and patience. Is this your Daily Driver?
If you want a transmission that will actually last, then get one from Darrin, you might as well get an upgraded Torque Converter if you have the money. Buy an entire tranny from darrin, get a marauder or Dirty Torque Converter (search about Dirty), and drop your motor from the bottom, unbolt it, bolt up the new one, throw her back in there.

re:

yea this is my daily driver, i could do withought it for a while if i decide to repair it myself. I like a nicely setup automatic, but i also would love the manual swap,, seems to me i would have to really apply myself to scrounge together parts for the manual swap. What is your estimate on the cost of a manual swap, i dotn want to overdue it , if it too expensive ill settle for built tranny

Think about this. If you put a built trans in with a stock converter you are not utilizing the torque multiplication the transmission can handle. A converter will be the most noticeable mod you can do to these cars excluding a supercharger. I suggest doing both at the same time. You do not want to put a junk converter in a good transmission or a good converter in a junk transmission. Do it once, do it right, move on to something else.

well doing the swap isnt all that bad. im done with my swap just finishing my motor. the cast for the swap was 400 for mine but that was because i found a parts sc for 400 and ended up selling the motor for 4 and scrapping the rest of the car for about 150-200. find one at the yard and you should be good
