When the 95 was near stock, all it had was a diablo chip in it...I could go 130-140 I guess....that was pacing my brother in his mustang on a closed track.

Now, I'd be lucky if it hit 120....but I'd bet I'd get there much faster!

Nick......................I'm back!!!

I have no good reason to go any more than 5-7 MPH faster than the posted speed limit, even on the freeways. Unless I end up passing a couple cars or a semi truck out in farm country, the fastest I ever go is 70-71 or so, and usually I go 68. Fastest the car has ever seen is probably 85, not much more (just for a second, like I said earlier: only once or twice while passing trucks and such). I really can't say because when I do such things, my mind is on driving and staying focused - not on "how fast can I go!?"

Unless you're at the track, I don't think you have any reason to be going that fast either. It's not safe and the "stock" car doesn't handle it well (read, driveshaft). Not to mention if you pass a cop he'll nail you.

The 89XR7 hit 157 once on a nice 10 degree winter day. That is with the M5R2 and the stock 2.73 rear diff. Before the 5-speed swap and tune, the lincoln would shut it down at 125, and I haven't topped it out since then. I'm betting it will hit 150 now with the T45 and 3.73s. And the 91, I don't know if I have the courage to find out how fast that car will go. I know it will hit 100mph in 3rd gear with no effort at all, so maybe one day I'll find a nice desolate stretch of straight road and I'll see what it or I can do.

110 in my 97 civic
90 or 95 in the 03 CR-V
90 in the 97 tbird
(after the civic and cr-v runs, I ended up getting pulled over doing 80 in a 60, $165 to take the class so it wont go on my record, so don't feel like having to worry about a ticket, the 90 in the bird was carefully planned, did some surveying to make sure no one was watchin, if you know what I mean. But that was when I first got it, and now I know the front end needs some work so I don't know if I trust it going that fast. Plus the tires are only rated for 90 I think. I'm looking at trying to get into the local track so I can legally have fun, because thats the best thing to do).

I also call BS since most MN12's were governed between 105 and 112. You sure you didn't have KPH and not MPH? (EDIT - just looked he's from Canada.. prolly means KPH so probably not BS then)

110mph once in the DOHC, but I've been told the car will go faster.

196 KPH is about 122 MPH. And I'm pretty sure I read some where that my 97 bird is governed at 125 MPH, but Melon has been around a bit longer than me and he says 105 mph to 115 mph. So, 196 KPH I would say, depending on year of car, could be true. Sorry for accusing you of BS, that is if you speedo is in KPH, if its MPH I'd still say no way.

That's me as well for the most part. I'm not so concerned with "how fast can I go", but I have to say I do sincerely enjoy our shorter than normal on-ramps to the interstate.....the looks on some peoples faces (who are already in motion and are already going 75+) when I blow past them by just coming in from the on-ramp is pretty cool.

My personal best as far as a top speed with a car wasn't with the bird; done enough reading here to know it's not a wise try with the stock driveshaft and such.
I had 164 mph in a '78 Dodge Aspen before I ran out of straightaway....built 318, 4 speed, Sure Grip, etc. still RPMs left in the motor but had to abort there. Had to do the RPM/tire diameter/gear ration math to get the figure as the speedo was all done with at 85. Double and triple checked because I wouldn't have guessed I was going that fast when I was doing it.

Umm.....my personal best in an 1/4 with a car was officially 124 mph. I forgot what the formula is for figuring h.p. out of that. Be neat to know just what that 350 Rocket was punishing my '78 Cutlass with.....but a new drivers side motor mount every weekend should've made me think to look that up back then.

Delete my account.

It could be up to 125mph, I've been known to be wrong before in my post, I meant that there's no way a stock LS Cougar went almost 200mph, but almost 200KPH I believe.

99.9% time, I'm with you. The 2-3 times I've gone WAAY over the posted limit was a "lets see what it can do" kind of thing. Otherwise, I have no desire to go very quick. It cruises great at 80 and that's enough for me.

And RCReevesPhotopgraphy - it's called an edit button.. try it, would ya? It's getting annoying to see multiple posts all within a few minutes of each other.
