Arguing on Assembly

So the other day i recieved by mail a trac loc unit. Refurbished with an 8 clutch design. IRS Specific of course. Now my friend seem to think that the ring and pinon automatically line up. He claims that there is no dialing in. Is this true or is he just talking out his a$$?

I've always known that they need to be dialed in correctly so that they dont whine or spin a tooth. However, thats always been on log axles. My friend claims that the IRS is different and doesnt need to be dialed in.

Yes if the carrier is removed from the housing the gears will need to set up
