That might not affect anything, but for the time involved in setting up a diff and how catastrophically they can fail, I wouldn't trust it. As for the "spacer" part, that is one of the factory shims for the diff. An install kit will have replacement shims, but they will be thinner and you will have to stack a bunch of them up to match the thickness of the factory one. At this point, if it were mine, I would just get another housing to put together, as well as some steeper gears and a trak-lok while you are in there.

As long as the shims rest against the case flat and square you would probably be okay, but personally, I would find another one (aluminum). I'm no differential guru, but have put together quite a few. Grab another case off of one of the cars you and your buddies smashed up.

lowered, koni sport adjustables, 4.30 tl in aluminum housing, mark 8 trans, j-mod, 93 mark viii ds, antenna hole=gone, kooks headers 1.75" primaries, 2.5" catless duals, midmount magnaflow, 96-97 sport wheels with 255/50/16 sumitomo HTR Zs, optima in the trunk, new motor...94 mark 6/6/08

I do have an aluminum one sitting in my garage, as well as a cast iron housing down at the shop. Make me an offer for either one if you want. Since you already have gears and a diff, I can pull them out to save on shipping.
