Discussion: Gear Ratio vs. Acceleration

Riddle me this: Which will accelerate faster in first gear (all things being equal except those listed):

Transmission first gear ratio: 2.84 w/final gear ratio: 3.73
(effective final drive ratio 10.5932:1)

or

Transmission first gear ratio: 3.88 w/final gear ratio: 2.73
(effective final drive ratio 10.5924:1)

In other words, does it matter "where" the torque multiplication takes place (and why)?

97 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC (Chip'd, 3.73 T/L... so far... )
97 Ford Aspire (Slow, but getting 36 mpg (f'n Ethenol!! )
84 F250 Dually w/6.9L Diesel (7.3L IDI pending)
73 Mercury Cougar Convertible w/351C 4V (Partially Restored)
69 F100 LWB w/460 Engine
76 Glastron Carlson 23' Jet Boat w/460 CJ Engine

Come on guys, doesn't anyone have any thoughts?

In my mind they would accelerate at the same rate, but I'm not sure if that is true.

r429460: If the second one would accelerate faster.... why?

I'm talking only theory here.

Assume:
Same car, same engine, same one speed transmission (just with the listed different gears), one speed rear end (again, just with the listed different gears), same temperature/humidity, no traction problems, etc.

This is just a question about does it matter acceleration wise "what device" (tranny or differential) does the torque multiplication?

Weight/Mass and Drag

Well, it would make sense to me #2 because even though the final ratio figures to be almost exactly the same, with the gearing early on, that is less weight/mass to spin up to speed since the output shaft/driveshaft/rear gears are all spinning less and the rotational acceleration of those components are lower. That results in less resistance/drag and less parasitic losses.

That's my analysis in a nutshell, but what do I know!
