Half Shafts

are the halfshafts on a 8.8 and 7.5 the same?

We are seeing half shafts that the groove for the cir-clip is a different dimension from the end of the shaft, not going into the gear far enough to clip into position.

Some have fixed this by grinding the end off the halfshaft. I seem to recall somewhere a comment about some pinion shafts for the carrier being different? maybe the longer halfshafts are for use with them???

Anybody run into this?

If we are talking about the MN12 IRS, the axles are not the same between the 2, but they are interchangable. The V6 cars with the 7.5 got smaller diameter and weaker axles, but you can put 7.5 axles in an 8.8 or 8.8 axles in a 7.5 with no problems. The only thing I can think of about grinding would be machining the spider gears from a non-IRS trak-lok unit to allow the circlips to compress, cause if you don't do that, and you put a diff out of a solid axle into the IRS unit, the axles will go in just fine, but they will never come out again.
