You're going to need a speedcal or similar device. The stock pcm will only correct 2 steps up, which would be 3.55's. If you need something more in depth, let one of the other members fill you in.

When you say "correct", you must mean only the shift points. Because I only went from 3.08 to 3.27 and my speed limiter now kicks in at 98 when before it was around 105 mph!

I got beat by an S-10 pickup because of that crap!

Well you will need the gear, gear install kit, gear oil, something to correct your speedo and maybe a tune, and some tools Also, some other things that may need to be replaced are axle seals (usually aren't included in a basic gear install kit) and a driveshaft.

A tune and the purple speedometer gear. No speedcal is needed.

Jeremy you should go with a 1.55 gear. It will make your 1994 Cougar super fast.

Never heard of a 1.55, but they do have an 8.8" 2.55 gear!

Why would you need a Driveshaft? It wouldn't be affected by the gear change

Higher ratio == higher driveshaft RPM for the same road speed == more vibration from the driveshaft at the same speed.

That's all.

I gotcha, so you might need a new driveshaft depending on how much yours vibrates. It's not a necessity just a good thing to upgrade while your in there.

lol he was kidding.. I don't think they even make a 1.55 gear and yes theoretically it would make your top speed somewhere well above 200mph but your car does not have the power to get there.. with a 4.10 gear your acceleration will be greatly improved and your top speed will not be reduced.

Brandon has made a calculator somewhere around here.. you can play with different gears and top speed.. I have it here someeewhere..

That was joke. A 3.73 would be a good upgrade.

Are you going to have a shop do the gears or were you planning on tackling this on your own?
