Differential ID

No, I'm not asking if i have a trac-lok. I'm going to be checking out a diff for sale near me. The guy says it has a torsen diff and 3.55's in it. How can I verify this without obviously tearing the whole diff apart? What are signs of wear and tear, or common red flags? Thanks!

I love my V8, but I'd love it more if all 8 cylinders worked. (they do now)

My T-bird is like George Jetson's wife, you try to give her a little money, she takes the whole wallet.

If you're just talking about about the pumpkin itself..

I don't think there is a way to verify what's inside of it without at least popping off the cover, and counting the teeth of the gears..

There should be 11 pinion gear teeth..Then 39 teeth on the ring gear (the larger one)..

The Torsen Differential uses helical cut gears rather than clutch plates, and spider gears..That's your first clue it's a Torsen vs a Trac-Lok..

IMO..Unless you're just going to use the diff for the drag-strip..I wouldn't chance buying a used diff to put in your DD unless you know the history of it..

Looks can be deceiving..

Send a message via Yahoo to 94 Thunderbird XX
Most gearsets will have the ratio stamped right into the edge of the ring gear, too.
