Installing Trac-Lok S-Spring

Nearing the end of all my drive line work.

Saved changing the trac-lok clutches for the end, I've been dreading this task. More so because the friction modifier gives me a headache than anything else.

Anyways, I've heard of people using hose clamps to press the s-spring together, and have heard of some people using a BFH to pound it in. Didn't have any hose clamps and pounding on the unit with a hammer makes me nervous.

This guy's method was very effective for me, it took longer to watch the movie than to actually accomplish the install.

*EDIT*

My vice grips are bigger than his so I clamped the spring horizontally, where he clamped his vertically. I then put the vice grips kiddie-corner to where he did and then tapped it in.

Hope that makes sense...Wish I had taken a picture

*Edit #2*
Just wanted to add, there is no need to remove the the TL unit and ring gear from the case if all you're doing is replacing the clutch packs.

Ken's method demonstrated in this video works great..This is how I always install them with a mini pair of needle nose vise-grips..

I've even used this method installing the F-150 "S" Spring..It works good..

Ken is actually a member here..With a great knowledge of all things Ford..I assume from his years of being a Ford service tech..

Wow I had no idea, looks like he is still active too.

I was scratching my head trying to figure out something that would work when I decided to check out Youtube. (none of my ideas did)

Thanks Ken! You saved me tons of frustration.
