Used gears

Has anyone purchased and used secondhand gears off of ebay? I am skeptical but they are significantly cheaper and are labeled as "good condition and ready to install". Whats the worst case scenario with used gears?

Worst case scenario is they fail and take out your diff and axles. Most likely, they would be fine. Just make sure the wear pattern is in the center of the teeth, check every tooth looking for any hairline cracks, and make sure to do a tooth pattern check when you install them prior to actually driving the car anywhere. That last part should be done on any gear install, but especially on used gears it will make sure once installed they are meshing the same as the wear pattern they already have.
